Functional Nutritionist

Micala Stevenson, MS-HNFM

Hi! I'm Micala, certified nutrition coach and owner of Durango Functional Nutrition based in Durango, Colorado. I have a master's degree in human nutrition and functional medicine from the University of Western States and a bachelor's degree in biology from Fort Lewis College.

I have been working in the health and wellness field since 2014 and began pursuing a career in nutrition in 2018 after discovering the healing power of food and lifestyle modifications firsthand. For years, I struggled with anxiety, PMS, stress, low motivation, and fatigue. It wasn't until I began addressing my own dietary and lifestyle habits and physiological imbalances that I finally started to find relief from the symptoms I was experiencing. I truly believe that dealing with my own health issues has given me a greater knowledge of and appreciation for nutritional influences on health.

My approach to health and well-being is highly individualized and aimed at using whole foods, lifestyle modifications, and targeted nutritional supplementation for health promotion and disease prevention. Making lifestyle changes is a highly personal process, which is why I love helping clients to understand their bodies and empowering them to reach their health goals. I make it a point to stay current in the literature and believe that continued learning is a crucial part of being a good practitioner.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, exploring the Colorado wilderness, hiking, mountain biking, camping, fishing, and watercolor painting.
